Description: This dataset contains the Designated Stocked Trout Waters (Catchable Trout Stocking Program) in Virginia for public use. While many of these locations are lakes, reservoirs, or ponds, some may represent single stocking locations on streams. These data are formatted as an ArcView shapefile and were compiled by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF). These data are presented as points. Rainbow, Brown, and Brook Trout represent the species being stocked. This data does not supercede physical signage at the locations indicated. This data is to be used as a guide, not for official use, and this data is not considered to be an official boundary of the stocked trout waters.

Description: This dataset contains the Designated Stocked Trout Waters (Catchable Trout Stocking Program) in Virginia for public use. The stocked trout stream sections are displayed in this dataset. Some special regulation streams displayed do not receive stocking and contain wild trout. These data are formatted as an ArcView shapefile and compiled by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF). These data are presented as lines. Rainbow, Brown, and Brook Trout represent the species being stocked. This data does not supercede physical signage at the locations indicated. This data is to be used as a guide, not for official use, and this data is not considered to be an official boundary of the stocked trout waters. Several waterbodies listed here are located on private land. These landowners are allowing the public to fish from their property October 1 through June 15 though an agreement with VDGIF. Misbehavior by anglers could cause a landowner to close their property to public angling.

Description: These data represent the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) coldwater or trout streams. VDGIF biologists have identified all of the reaches in this dataset as wild (Class I-IV) or stockable (Class V and VI) trout streams or as tributaries to wild trout streams. These classifications give the streams special management considerations and protection. Please note that many of the streams are on private property and are not necessarily public fishing waters.
