Abstract:
This raster image displays values of modeled federal or state threatend or endangered (T&E) species richness completed as part of the Virginia Gap Analysis Project (VAGAP). T&E species richness is the total number of listed threatened or endanged species that are predicted to potentially occur within an area. T&E species richness is the sum of all VAGAP predicted state or federally listed species distributions. There are 38 state or federally listed threatend or endangered species that were modeled as part of the Virginia Gap Analysis (VDGIF update). The 38 species are listed below:

Purpose:
This is an output of the Virginia Gap Anaylsis project (VAGAP). The purpose of this image is to show patterns of threatend or endangered species richness across Virginia. This dataset can be use to assess biodiversity and biodiversity protection on a statewide scale.
Supplemental_Information:
This raster is an update of the analysis completed in 'A Gap Analysis of Virginia: 2001 Final Report'. More accurate species range information was used in this updated version. However, species-habitat relationships did not change.

Data and database structure were orginially developed by Scott Klopfer and others at the Conservation Management Institute. Vertebrate species range information were reviewed by taxonomic experts throughout Virginia. Range updates were applied the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF).
